ADVANTAGES OF INTERLOCKING BRICKS :

Menfra GOC Since 2008 Company

ADVANTAGES OF INTERLOCKING BRICKS :

Cost-savings as cement and sand are not used for constructing the wall.

Reduces the time and cost of making   buildings.

Being a less warmth serious and normal  material, laterite holds coolness inside  the house.

Fewer labour intensive and more time  saving . You can save almost half of your time.

Can be rescued without harm when the house is being disassembled later on

Less heat intensive.

Lesser/no use of air conditioners resulting in minimized energy consumption and more cost saving.

Being a less heat-intensive and natural material, laterite retains coolness inside the house.

Less labor intensive and more time- saving

Design is more blended with nature as arificial bonding mechanism is completely done away with

The walls have more strength than the normal walls. (just hit the wall and listen to the sound of walls made by interlocking bricks as well as by normal bricks)

Since no painting is required another cost saving ( Painting also done based on your requirements)

What Is Interlocking Bricks? How It’s Useful For Residential Building Construction?

While discussing about the advantages in a wide sense, we can pointed like,

Cost-Effect

Environmental Friendly

Durable Low Maintenance

Fast Construction

High Strength

Customized Designs

Interlock Bricks /Interlocking Bricks are the enhanced form of conventional clay bricks. Each brick is constructively designed to lock itself to the other bricks around without the use of mortar. The self-locking is achieved using shear-key and lock mechanism. Based on the design, the shape of shear-key will vary and a complimentary lock is provided on the opposite side of the brick. Load transfer is achieved by shear transfer and gravity. Typically, the construction process and masonry can be tedious, time-consuming, and expensive. To overcome the hardships and issues encountered during construction, varied methods of construction are being considered and developed.

Simultaneously, materials and equipment used for construction are also being fabricated to enhance the quality of construction and furthermore minimize the time and cost. Interlocking/interlock bricks are one such advancement in the construction industry. Usually the wire cut bricks or extruded bricks are made using a modern method of manufacturing whereas interlocking bricks are made to reduce the construction cost.

Method Of Construction Using Interlocking Bricks

The normal basement is to be laid down first. Since the interlocking bricks have more weight than conventional bricks, a stronger basement is needed.

Once the basement is laid, one layer of normal baked bricks is placed over the basement. The width of this layer shall match with the thickness of the wall which is going to be built using interlocking bricks.

The Interlocking bricks are neatly arranged over this layer. (Experienced labourers are a must since any irregularities in their placement cannot be corrected at a later stage.

While concreting the roof, ensure that the edges of the roof project out a little more than the wall. This is to ensure that rainwater does not flow through the walls.

Once the construction is complete the corners of the wall are completely plastered using the cement. This helps to have adequate pressure from the sides of the building for the bricks bonded together. The pressure from the top is from the concrete above. So it is as if the interlocking is placed with adequate pressure from all the four boundaries.

The external wall can be left as such without painting. But the gaps have to be filled with like-colored cement.

If the internal wall needs to be plastered, it is better to make the surface rough before plastering, since the surface of this brick is relatively smooth

Let us tell you more about interlocking/ interlock bricks which can save construction cost up to 30% to 40%.

For those of you wanting to build a dream home without spending out your entire life’s savings, interlock houses will prove to be a revelation.

Earthquake Resistant: During earthquakes, there are various stresses acting on the structure. Conventional bricks are not fully equipped to transfer the seismic loads throughout the structure since the only medium of load transfer is the mortar. If the mortar fails then the whole structure fails under seismic forces. Interlocking bricks are effective and proven earthquake-resistant construction materials. The self-locking pattern of the bricks enables the seismic forces to travel across the whole structure equivalently.

No more Plaster Work: Plastering can be time consuming and costly in case of conventional wall construction. Plastering of walls can be completely eliminated by using fair faced bricks of your choice available in the market. If required the walls can be given a smooth finish by applying a thin layer of paint. Since these bricks are self-designed that gives a neat finish, the maintenance cost is minimized.

Provides cooler Interior: High compacted bricks generally result in higher density, which in turn converts itself into the high thermal mass. Henceforth, the walls made of high compacted bricks typically furnish warm interiors. Interlocking bricks are less heat-intensive. The tests have shown that interlocking bricks provides a much cooler interior (3oC – 5oC). This enables lesser or no use of air conditioners resulting in minimized energy consumption and more cost-saving.

Minimizes COST: Since there is no use of mortar in the construction process, the cost of buying cement, sand, mortar and stone dust can be neglected. Also the cost for transportation can also be immensely reduced along with the cost on skilled labour. It does not require plasterwork, minor bar bending work, lesser cement and fewer labourers hence contributing to the overall cost reduction of the construction project.

Time Efficient: It is proved as the most time efficient way of construction. The normal conventional bricks has to be cured for about 21 days whereas the self-locking bricks require only 7 days of curing. In addition to that, time required for setting and curing of the structure can be diminished completely. By eliminating all the time consuming tasks, the project can be completed faster.

WHAT ARE INTERLOCKING BRICKS?

Interlocking bricks are the enhanced form of conventional clay bricks. Each brick is constructively designed to lock itself to the other bricks around without the use of mortar.

The self-locking is achieved using shear-key and lock mechanism. Based on the design, the shape of shear-key will vary and a complimentary lock is provided on the opposite side of brick. Load transfer is achieved by shear transfer and gravity.

STRENGTH :

Interlocking bricks are compressed and stabilized earth bricks which contributes to strength of the structure. They are usually not subjected to baking.

DOES NOT REQUIRE PLASTER WORK (if you need plaster work also possible ) :

Plastering can be time consuming and costly in case of conventional wall construction. Plastering of walls can be completely eliminated by using fair faced bricks of your choice available in the market.
